Paul Bakken, MAI and CCIM is a principal of The Valuation Group, Inc., with more than 25 years of commercial real estate appraisal experience. He has extensive background with all commercial property types in the upper Midwest and is especially well-versed in the Minneapolis and St. Paul commercial real estate markets and national special-purpose properties such as regional malls, major industrial manufacturing plants, high-rise office and other complex valuation assignments.
Prior to founding The Valuation Group, Paul was owner of Bakken, Liedl, Janssen, Day & Reach, Inc., Bakken & Liedl, Inc., and Johnson, Liedl & Bakken Company. He also worked for American Appraisal, where he specialized in national commercial properties, appraising complex commercial properties in 27 states.
Paul appreciates challenging commercial property valuation assignments. Recent commercial real estate appraisal assignments include 3M's seven million square foot corporate headquarters (St. Paul, MN), Medtronic, General Mills, Imation, and Best Buy's Headquarters, St. Paul's World Trade Center, the Minnesota Twins stadium site (Minneapolis), Southdale, Ridgedale, Eden Prairie Center, Northtown, Maplewood Mall, the Galleria, and Burnsville regional malls, and multiple industrial properties over 1,000,000 square feet in size located throughout the Midwest. He has been retained as an expert witness in numerous high profile commercial real estate cases in the Minnesota court system over the past two decades.
Paul has a Master's Degree in Real Estate Appraisal and Investment Analysis, studying under the renowned Dr. James Graaskamp in Madison, WI. He received his MAI in 1990, and CCIM in 1994. He maintains his continuing education for his Certified General Real Property Appraiser license, plus continually seeks out diverse learning opportunities in his field.

Affiliations - Paul Bakken is a Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI), and a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM). He is an alumni from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (MS), and from Bethel College, Arden Hills, MN (BA). Paul holds his Certified General Real Property Appraiser state certification in the State of Minnesota (No. 4001461). He is a frequent speaker and instructor at numerous commercial real estate seminars, classes and events around the Minneapolis and St. Paul area.
