About the MAI Designation and
Certification by the Appraisal Institute

Minnesota Certified General Real Property Appraisers

The Valuation Group has 13 commercial real estate appraisers licensed by the State of Minnesota, the majority of which hold the highest Certified General Real Property Appraiser license. Furthermore, all of the four principals hold the prestigious MAI designation (Member Appraisal Institute) from the Appraisal Institute in Chicago, IL, long considered a real estate industry standard. There is over 120 years of commercial real estate experience in this team of leading real estate appraisers at The Valuation Group.

MAI (Member of the Appraisal Institute)

All principals controlling The Valuation Group are MAI's or Members of The Appraisal Institute. The Appraisal Institute is a worldwide professional real estate appraiser association that was started back in 1932. With over 22,000 members in its 92 chapters throughout the world, the Appraisal Institute clearly sets the standard for all real estate appraisers. The mission for the Appraisal Institute is to "support and advance its members as the choice for real estate solutions and uphold professional credentials, standards of professional practice and ethics consistent with the public good."

The Appraisal Institute provides its members with extensive real estate appraisal education, wide-ranging resources and professional networking, in addition to their strict reinforcement of Code of Professional Ethics and Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, to which every MAI is bound. The Appraisal Institute upholds professional credentials, standards of professional practice and ethics beyond state certification. There are only 90 MA designated members within Minnesota. All four principals of The Valuation Group hold the prestigious MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute. And each principal has been appraising commercial real estate for an average of 25 or more years. Through rigorous upper-level education, experience review, comprehensive testing, and demonstration report writing, our principals have been awarded the MAI designation.
